Aviation Services Division

 

Aviation Services & Security Division has responsibility for formulating policy in the areas of aviation security, access to the market for air services and aviation/environment issues. The Division also has overarching responsibility for formulating aviation safety policy and air navigation and airspace management policy. The Irish Aviation Authority advises the Division and the Minister on aviation safety and air navigation issues in accordance with its statutory role under the Irish Aviation Authority Act, 1993.

 

The Ministers statutory functions of monitoring compliance by airports, airlines and other relevant entities with national and international aviation security requirements are carried out by Aviation Services & Security Division under warrant by the Minister.

 

The Division also represents Irish aviation interests in European and international fora including the EU Council, EUROCONTROL, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The Division also has responsibility for functions associated with the States significant minority shareholding in Aer Lingus and for the corporate governance of the Irish Aviation Authority and the Commission for Aviation Regulation and ensuring compliance by both agencies with the Government Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies.
