The Maritime Passenger Transport Forum was established in December 2006 as a requirement of the Department of Transports Sectoral Plan "Transport Access for All" drawn up in compliance with the requirements of the Disability Act 2005.

The Forum, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Vincent J.G Power, is made up of representatives of disability organisations, passenger ship and port service providers, relevant Government departments and the National Disability Authority.  The Forum published its report on 24 November 2008.
