Lansdowne Road Stadium Redevelopment
New Stadium Redevelopment at Lansdowne Road
In 2004, the Government agreed to provide funding of €191 million
to the joint IRFU/FAI project for the redevelopment of the Stadium at Lansdowne
Road as a 50,000-capacity all-seater facility. Any costs of the project
over and above the funding provided by the Government is the shared responsibility
of the IRFU and the FAI.
The Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company (LRSDC) is the contracting
party for the development and management of the new stadium. A Steering
Group under the Chair of the Secretary General of the Department is overseeing
the delivery of the project.
On 22 March 2007, An Bord Pleanála upheld an earlier decision by
Dublin City Council to grant planning permission for the redevelopment.
On site work commenced in May 2007. It is planned that the new stadium will
open during 2010.
