Dublin LRT Study - Comparative Analysis of Surface and Underground Options

The Government gave a commitment in An Action Programme for the Millennium to commission a study of the option of putting the Dublin light rail (LRT) system underground in the City Centre. In October, 1997, W.S. Atkins, consultants, were appointed to carry out a comparative evaluation of surface and underground LRT options in the City Centre.

The consultants were asked to identify the option - surface or underground - which (1) best contributed to the overall transport needs of the city; (2) best provided the capacity to meet long-term passenger demand. This report comprises the key issues and conclusions of their findings
