To ask the Minister for Transport if he has received a report on the progress to date of replacing the East Wall Road bridge, Dublin 3 which was intended to be completed by the end of September 2002; and the current forecast of the completion date
-Richard Bruton
Answered by the Minister for Transport (Seamus Brennan)
The East Wall Road Bridge replacement project commenced in February of this year. I understand from Iarnród Éireann that the first phase of the railway enabling work has been completed and the old West bridge deck removed.
The new West deck has been fabricated and is available for lifting into position. Iarnród Éireann expect to do this by mid-August.
The second phase of the works will then commence. This will involve further railway works to allow for the removal and replacement of the existing East bridge deck.
The final phase of the project will involve the removal of the retaining wall along Stoney Road and Iarnród Éireann expect to complete this early in 2003.
