The planning, design and implementation of national road improvement projects is a matter for the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the relevant local authority.

The Government, at its meeting on 10 February 2004, noted the current position relating to the upgrade of the M50.  The estimated cost of the upgrade at that time was €590 million (2002 prices).
