"More passengers, more tourists, more jobs for the mid-west" Cullen

"More passengers, more tourists, more jobs for the mid-west", was the reaction of Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen today (30th November 2004) to the investment in Shannon Airport.

"I am delighted by Ryanair's decision to establish its 12th European base at Shannon airport.  This is a vote of confidence in the future of Shannon, strengthens its prospects for the years ahead and promises to deliver 2 million passengers over the next five years.

"The announcement of nine new routes from Shannon is a major economic boost to the region and will enhance the Mid-West's many existing charms as a tourist destination.  It clearly demonstrates what Shannon can achieve when it sets out to compete and to win.

"Shannon has a great future as a leading international airport.  I am confident that today's announcement represents the start of a new chapter for Shannon that will see the airport serving more and more passengers over the months and years ahead."

Minister Cullen paid tribute to the Board of the new Shannon Airport Authority, its Chairman, Pat Shanahan and the staff for their commitment and drive in mapping a positive future for Shannon Airport.
