Mr. Ivor Callely, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Transport today (Friday, 11th February 2005) announced that he has made Regulations to give effect to revised NCT test fees. The Minister emphasised that the increases, of between 0.55% and 1.25% depending on the test category, are much lower than inflation in the period since the last fee increase.
The revised test fees (inclusive of VAT) to apply from 1 March 2005 are:
€49.00 for a full NCT (currently €48.40),
€27.50 for a retest requiring the use of test equipment (currently (€27.20),
€90.00 for a taxi suitability test (currently €89.50).
"This is only the second increase in the test fee since the NCT contract was awarded in December 1998, the previous revision having taken place in February 2001" the Minister pointed out, adding that the new fees still maintains the NCT fees as among the lowest test fees in Europe."
The Minister confirmed that an independent appeals procedure for NCTS customers is now being operated country-wide by the Automobile Association. " NCTS has a good record of customer service and this initiative can only reinforce that," Minister Callely said.
The Minister also confirmed that arrangements are being finalised for the mid-term review of the NCTS. This review will concentrate on the strategic development of the Service and will have a particular emphasis on customer service. "I am pleased to say that the review will involve a number of regional workshops that will give NCTS customers the opportunity to make their suggestions for improvements on a personal basis" the Minister said, ending that details of the review will be announced shortly.
