"Today, Aer Lingus took a key step in its positioning for growth"

Mr. Martin Cullen, T.D., Minister for Transport has welcomed today's announcement (22nd April, 2005) of Mr. Dermot Mannion as Chief Executive of Aer Lingus.

Minister Cullen said: "Today, Aer Lingus took a key step in its positioning for growth.  I am delighted that Aer Lingus has secured the skills of Dermot Mannion.  He comes to Aer Lingus with a proven track record earned at one of the world's leading airlines.  He joins Aer Lingus at an exciting time for growth.  I look forward to seeing the impact of his leadership on the future development of our national airline.

"Significant progress has been made in recent years in turning Aer Lingus around.  This is due in no small part to the efforts of the Board, management and staff of the Company.  Aer Lingus operates in a volatile and ever changing environment which requires the Company to function as efficiently as possible with maximum flexibility to compete.  I have no doubt that with the guidance of Dermot Mannion, working together with a committed staff, Aer Lingus will continue to thrive and grow."
