The Railway (Kildare Route Project) Order 2006 was made by the Minister for Transport on 5 December 2006, authorising CIE to proceed with the development of the Kildare Route Project.  The project involves four-tracking a critical section of the railway line between Cherry Orchard and Hazlehatch on the Kildare line, to facilitate capacity and frequency enhancements in commuter, regional and Intercity services using this line into and out of Heuston Station.
