North Aran (Inis Mór) Coast Guard Unit is led by Mr. Enda Mullen, Area Officer. The team is a coastal search unit. Inis Mór is the largest of the three Aran Islands off the west coast of Galway, and its name means 'large island'. It has a population of about 900, which more than triples during the tourist season.
This island has a wealth of ancient monuments and early Christian ruins. Most notable of all is Dún Aengus - The Fort of Aonghasa - which sits on the very edge of the island on top of a 90m high sea cliff.
