To ask the Minister for Transport and the Marine the directions he has made to the National Roads Authority under Section 41 of the Roads Act, 1993 since coming into office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have given no direction to the National Roads Authority (NRA) under Section 41 of the Roads Act, 1993.

As Minister for Transport I have responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme element of Transport 21. The implementation of and allocation of funding to individual national road projects is a matter for the NRA under the Roads Act, 1993 in conjunction with the relevant local authorities concerned.
